Classroom Reveal...Burlap & Black

Ok well it's not technically my classroom BUT I did create the sets.  In fact these pictures are actually a combination of 2 different classrooms in my building that used my Burlap & Black decor.  I am loving the results.  Ms. Durbin (whom I'm uber-excited is my daughter's teacher this year) from 3rd Grade's a Hoot wanted a change of pace from her bright owls...and well since I am no longer in a classroom myself {more on that in a future post} I had to get my decorating fix some way... so I volunteered to make her set. I am super happy with the results and well she says it feels so "zen!" Fabulous! Disclaimer: Please excuse the blurry pics.  Had to count on the iPhone for this one.

Saving Space...

Just a quick stop by to share a space saving idea that was a great improvement to my classroom!! I use every square foot of my classroom as I'm sure MOST of you all do as well.  Reading area here, writer's workshop supplies there, oh and where shall I put listen to reading?...I'm blessed with a fairly large classroom, but there's one thing that was driving me bonkers! MY POCKET CHART STAND!!! I'd tried a mega stand from Lakeshore, a small garment rack from Walmart, and I just couldn't get all giggly over any of them. I think the pushing them around was the problem.  Then it hit me...put it in a place that was easily accessible and could be put away in a snap.  Taadaaa!!! I just attached it to the top of my white board with staples and used the little velcro to roll it up for storage. Now I'm certain I'm not the first to do this and I'm sure at some point this is what the velcro on the back was intended for, but it was new to me! And it's made my teaching life just a tad easier.

Have a great week!!

New Zebra Leveled Labels!!

As you can see from the previous post we were allowed back into our classrooms early this summer.  It was very rare. My campus is usually the last one on the cleaning/floor tour for the district.  This summer we were moved to first! Some of my teacher besties and I totally took advantage! Laptops in tow, a Cherry Dr. Pepper in hand, and lots of giggles along the way we spent multiple days prepping our spaces. We had a great time helping each other out and sharing ideas.

One of my most re-pinned classroom pictures on Pinterest is my leveled library from the Where It All Goes Down Post from last summer. The boxes are from Really Good Stuff (Wow my classroom has changed a bit since then!)...

On to my point...
One of my teammates has a jungle themed room and asked if I could make leveled labels to match her theme and color scheme.  I was so excited to see how they turned out and I LOVE them! (The white buckets are ice buckets from Walmart!)

You can check them out in my Teachers Pay Teachers store!

Sneak Peak (well really it's a sneak read?!?)...in the works for 1st Grade Glitter and Giggles...I'm pairing up with 3rd Grade's a Hoot for a Pirate sized giveaway!!

Classroom Makeover...

Well kind of...maybe I should say classroom update!?!? I needed to re-arrange to create some wall space in order to implement Cafe this year and let the owls join in the fun, and I'm all glitter and giggles with the results! The owl tree turned out just fab! I was also in need of a new guided reading table so Misty and I headed to Ikea.  My previous table just took up too much room.  I'm not sure how much I'll like the new table, but it looks sooo much better.  Check out some of my new glitter...

A Few Things...

Just dropping by for a quick post about a few assorted items! Wow, what a busy year we are already off to. My class has done a nice job at getting their first grade year started and my new team is learnin' the ropes. Hopefully, we are almost to a point where I can give this blog a little bit of TLC. (Just need to get passed my formal observation tomorrow!)

There are a few items that I'd like to take the time to touch on today.

Thank you so much to my BFF Misty at 3rd Grade's a Hoot for honoring my glittery little blog with a Top 10 Blog Award.  I jumped into the game a bit late and many of my faves, well deservedly so, have already been awarded. There are so many wonderful blogs out there and multiple that I "borrow" ideas from. I am so grateful to you all.

I've also added a couple of new items to my TPT store that I'd like to share.  Several have asked about the book bin labels shown in my classroom library on my "Where It All Goes Down" post.  Take a look!

And for all of you Owl Lovers out there...check out my Owl Focus Wall Headers!!

I'm really trying to pace my time between lesson plans, creating for my kiddos, pinning, blogging, and making sure that my little kinder princess and her teacher have everything that they need. It's all SOOO MUCH FUN! Let me know if there is any glitter or giggles that I can send your way.  Enjoy the rest of your week!

Where It All Goes Down Wednesday

Ok, this will be my favorite part of teacher week!! Not so much to show my room, but to see all of the super cute classrooms out there! Head on over to Blog Hoppin' and check out all of the fabulous linkys!

So here's just a few pics from my Work Sweet Home!!...
I've actually posted a picture of my meeting board before, but I was able to snag this fabulous rug at a yard sale this year just before school started.  I'm lovin it!

Student cubbies.
Leveled library and student book boxes.

Reading corner.
Math manipulatives, read alouds, puzzles, and files.

Word Wall (This was actually taken at the end of last year when ALL of our first grade words were up on the board!) I also now have a separate book shelf for the books that were on the ledge.

My workspace.

Guided reading and small group area.

Well that's about it! Right now it's actually a mess from surving the first 3 days of school. Soooo glad that you stopped by my room! (giggles)

Work Sweet Home...

I've pondered what the best way to introduce myself through this glittery little blog might be, and I think I'll start here...my workplace! It's funny, you know how you have your coming home routine? Mine goes a little something like this, close the door, purse on the bench, large work tote dropped heavily onto the ground (some days it's like the heaviest weight lifted off of your shoulder!), keys onto the table, and a quick survey around the house to see what kind of a mess you might be up against this evening. One morning I came to the realization that I had a different but similar routine every morning when I came to work...unlock classroom door, drop the large work tote that you may or may not have had the chance to even open the night before, turn on the computer, pull down the projector screen, write the morning message, and quickly survey the room to see what kind of a mess you might be up against for the day! Giggles! That's when it hit me. This place is my second home...and...I love it just as much.  Work sweet home. So here are a few pictures so that you know where I spend my time.

This is Barbara Walker Elementary School. Located in a fast growing master-planned community.

This adorable sign that hangs in front of my door was a gift from one of my former students.
These are my amazing teammates that also reside in my building! (This group is changing quite a bit this next year, as our community continues to grow.) PS-We love Fancy Nancy!

And here are a few random pictures from inside of my room. I have lots more to share, but my room is currently packed up and in the hallway to prepare for summer floor maintenance. Wow! What a sight!

Thanks for peeking into my world!
